Crytek Goes Free-To-Play

Crytek’s CEO Cevat Yerli recently announced that all of Crytek’s upcoming projects will be strictly free-to-play. This does not include their games currently in development. Crytek said that “As we were developing console games we knew very clearly that the future is online and free-to-play.”

“If you look at what kind of games are done in the packaged goods market, with DLCs and premium services and whatnot, it’s literally milking the customers to death,” Yerli stated.

Crytek’s first free-to-play game will be ‘Warface’, a shooter set in the near future. The game is said to give a cinematic experience with next-gen graphics, AI, and physics. The game is set to be released in 2012.
